Good afternoon guys! Such a long time without writing a post in english... I have missed it a lot. I have seen that what I wrote about the Lake Michigan and that amazing evening with my friends cautivated my audience, so here I am to tell you about my life here, in one of my favourite cities in the entire world. This post is going to be personal and intimate... hope you enjoy this little piece of me.
A confused and shy guy decided more than a year ago that he needed a change, that things were not made for him where he used to live and that travelling abroad was one of the things we can count on, so he told his parents the decision of leaving the country for a year and going to Chicago. My dad was really excited about it because he thought that being on my own and alone would make me stronger and more mature; my mum instead was a little sad because she didn't want her son to leave.
That boy, outgoing and extrovert for everyone was really shy on the inside and he always felt small besides his considerable height. The senior year passed by really fast and without knowing it, he saw himself holding a diploma and ending high school surronded by the people he loved and his family.
Summer arrived, and with it all the trips, festivals and new experiences that an eighteen year old boy likes to enjoy.
Suddenly he realized that september was looming ahead and being honest, fear became an important piece of the puzzle but at the end he was brave enough to take that plane to Chicago. Saying goodbye to Carolina, his best friend, Silvia, Javier, Mar, Natalia, Alba, Patricia, Agus, Saul, Dani, Maria, Andrea, Paloma, Aaron and many others was tough; the farewell that his family prepared was even worst. But he made it, the day after he found himself in a house he had never seen before and with strangers that helped him, he was so thankfuk for the place he arrived in, they were so friendly and nice, nowadays they still are. Their charisma it's powerful and the way they have made him forget about the daily hazards it's astonishing.
Day by day he felt more comfortable with this huge city that might scares you sometimes in many different ways; however, Chicago's magnetism it's something you can't describe with words.
Really soon he started new friendships, and new bonds were created with people from all over the world. His life was ironically a spanish joke which was composed by a korean millionaire, an arab dude, a french princess, a venezuelan soulmate, a japanese monkey and a spanish sweetheart. Friends that filled his heart with joy, love, support and empathy. He was so fucking thankful, he felt like in a dream, he was part of a movie with an endless script, he was kind of happy.
The way Emma look at him and hug him when he is sad, how fun and reliable she is, her unbelievable empathy skill, everything about her is perfect and she doesn't realize it. He hopes one day she will see and understand her value, because it's bigger than the galaxy.
Even though sometimes (now for example) he wants to kill Abdu, he can't blame him for his thoughts, dealing with a person from Saudi Arabia will never be easy. He loves him, he is one of the reasons he's still there. He made him believe in himself, he have never seen such a good person that cares that much about others even when he is going through bad moments. He hopes one day he realizes that love can go over religion, boundaries, countries and genders and that he is just as smart as Steve Jobs was.
Shane, Hunso, Jay, Sunny showed me how Korea is and works. Literally, I had never imagined having friends from this country. Their food, their culture, their behaviour... their kindness is infinite!
Takumi... he was the first really good friend that left and he misses him so bad. "Monkey" was his nickname because pretending to be one was one of his hobbies. Parties and trips will never be the same... but hopefully in the future our boy will take a plane to Japan to see him!
And his beautiful and lovely spanish speakers. Mariana, the life of the parties, the flame that illuminates Chicago at night, she is stronger than the rest of us, she is so lucky and our boy thinks that she doesn't know that. If he had to summarize his year in a sentence, her name would be definitely in it. And Nuria, the first person he met before his trip, she is full of energy, stamina, strenght, power, kindness and love. Despite the bad things she has suffered, she always look on the bright side and she helps me everyday. She is one of my biggest foundations here.
Well, that boy it's me and creating this little text was necessary because I just want to let them know how important and amazing they are. I love you guys, don't ever forget me!
